Töging, 11.06.2024. Spangler has been awarded the “Blühender Betrieb” (Blooming Company) award. The prize was presented in recognition of the company’s active commitment of biodiversity and environmental protection on its premises, marking significant recognition for its sustainable efforts within the framework of the “Blühpakt Bayern” (Bavarian Blooming Pact).
It was a pleasure to welcome State Secretary Tobias Gotthardt and Mayor Bernd Mayr to our company and present our progress in the areas of automation and digitalization.
When techniques from other fields are used in technical revolutions, it is called technology transfer. Together with our customers, we were able to achieve such a technology transfer at the waterworks of the municipality of Mühlhausen. The starting situation was the municipality’s requirement to secure the waterworks against the failure of the public power grid.
For our client Hecht Technologie GmbH, we successfully implemented the Small Package Filling with PCC project. This execution underscores our capabilities in automating complex systems and sets new standards in the efficiency and precision of process automation.
At a ceremonial event, we were presented with the “Blühender Betrieb – Blooming Business” award by the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection. This award reflects our long-standing commitment to environmental protection and biodiversity.
In the presence of our entire workforce, we were able to open our new cafeteria, which is more than just a place for a lunch break. This newly designed space symbolizes our vision of creating a central meeting point where employees from all departments can meet and exchange ideas. We want our employees to feel not only productive in their work environment but also particularly comfortable.
With numerous employees participating and wonderfully sunny weather, our excursion day began, impressively demonstrating our collective strength as a team and our partnership with HUBER SE. Starting in our newly opened cafeteria, we enjoyed fresh wraps and cool drinks before visiting the HUBER SE plant in Erasbach together.
On the fringes of this year’s IFAT Munich, the leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management, Spangler invited numerous international customers and business partners to an exclusive VIP evening reception. This special event took place in the König Ludwig restaurant, which is known for its unique ambience.

Our customer ISV Umwelt UG has equipped the sewage treatment plant Felsberg, a town in the North Hessian region of Schwalm-Eder, about 20 kilometers South of Kassel, with a new centrifuge for sludge dewatering. SPANGLER supplied the control and automation technology for this project.
The water treatment system of our customer Bertschi AG in Switzerland actually works perfectly after the tank has been cleaned. The water added with chemical substances is treated and can therefore flow back into the sewer system.
Pondus® Verfahrenstechnik GmbH has commissioned Spangler Automation to install a new disintegration plant in the sewage treatment plant Erlangen. This is a process for the digestion of microorganisms in sewage sludge, the so-called thermal-chemical cell disintegration.

Spangler could move into the new building already in 2020. It was now presented again in the local newspaper.
At the biogas plant in Gordemitz Spangler GmbH realized the automation, starting with engineering, to PLC programming, creating the control system, to production and start-up. In all, 21 control cabinet fields were planned and projected, which are distributed to different buildings.
Spangler is an UL-listed manufacturer of control systems and thus certified, to produce plants for the North American market. A regular inspection by UL Germany guarantees a consistently high standard based on current standards.
Waste water heat utilization is becoming increasingly economically interesting due to the rising energy prices. Thus, in the municipality Schallstadt, near Freiburg in the South of Germany, the favorable location of the new building area near the sewer channel was used to install a system called ThermWin which was developed by Huber SE.
Modern industrial plants are often enabled by industrial communication networks to communicate and work in a network. The usual office network technology (IT world) differs significantly from the technology used in control systems in the OT world (Operational Technology). In recent years, however, OT and IT have increasingly merged, referred to as “Industry 4.0″.

At the annual Neighbourhood Day of the waterworks neighbourhood in Kelheim, all specialists from the waterworks in the region meet for a training event and for a mutual exchange.
The traditional brewery Lammsbräu in Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate is a long-term customer of SPANGLER Automation. Within the scope of an extensive retrofit programme, the process of malt kiln was completely equipped with new hardware, the wiring diagram and the software were revised and several plants were connected to the existing control system.
SPANGLER Automation has been a Siemens Solution Partner for several years in the sectors -Factory Automation- and -Industrial Strength Networks. As one of 20 companies worldwide, Spangler now went through the certifying process also in the industrial sector Water & Wastewater and was awarded with the official certificate in June 2022.
Dietfurt, 27.09.2022. The best graduates of apprenticeship were honoured by the Chamber of Handicrafts Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatinate. One of them was an electronics technician from Töging.
01.09.2022 For six young people, their professional lives began on the first of September with an apprenticeship at Spangler.
The long-standing customer Schirmbeck GmbH had commissioned SPANGLER Automation to carry out the automation of the new glass grinding plant. The control of the mills, conveyor systems and silos, which are from different manufacturers, were coupled with a master control by Spangler and provided with a uniform visualisation. An aeration in the Spangler control cabinets, especially designed for this, prevents deposit of the fine glass particles on the electronic components.
17 pump stations are connected to the canal system of Dietfurt an der Altmühl, which convey the local waste water to the sewage treatment plant. With the aim to monitor it centrally and automated, SPANGLER Automation has retrofitted the large remote maintenance system of the home community and implemented it into the existing control system of the sewage treatment plant. This guarantees continuous individual monitoring based on measured values, data and possible fault messages.
The best graduates of apprenticeship were honoured by the Chamber of Handicrafts. One of them was an electronics technician from Töging.
For the second time Spangler has carried out the safety training “Access in enclosed rooms of waste water treatment plants” with many motivated participants.

In order to achieve the generally defined goal of phasing out coal and due to the amendment of the sewage sludge regulation, the combustion of sewage sludge instead of coal as a fuel is a good alternative. For this reason, two belt dryers with a yearly capacity of 80.000 tons were installed at a plant of an energy provider for increase of capacity. SPANGLER Automation planned, produced and programmed the automation technology on behalf of HUBER SE Berching.

Sewage sludge must not be used any longer as fertilizer in agriculture due to nitrate contamination. In dried form, however, it can be used as fuel, for example, for energy generation. For this reason, Stadtentwässerung Mannheim (urban drainage) modernizes the sewage sludge drying plant of its sewage treatment plant. Three belt dryers replace two existing drum dryers and thus at the same time expand the drying capacities.
Spangler Automation has supported the Upper Bavarian municipality Burgkirchen on the Alz with the expansion and modernisation of its sewage treatment plant for more than 20 years. The latest project was about the exchange of the mimic diagram for the control of the plant stations by a video wall consisting of four LED screens. “With the existing static execution, new plants such as a combined heat and power plant or a sludge dewatering plant, cannot be added anymore “, Martin Müller, Sales Manager, reports.
Actually, it is already well equipped, the sewage treatment plant of Bad Tölz: it has several PLC controls and a control system, a screen plant and a sludge dewatering with subsequent solar drying. However, most of the components, among them the control units, are already between 15 and 20 years old – therefore, it is time to bring the plant up to the current technical standard, especially since spare parts are not available anymore.
The Software SEMA (Spangler Electronic Material Request) has already facilitated Spangler’s goods logistics for some years. The software has now been supplemented by the SEMA App for mobile devices to enable the electricians on the installation site to have access to our material supply. The development took just a couple of weeks; currently the employees are testing the app in the operative application.

21.07.2021 The municipal kindergarten in Töging is currently hosting 43 children. To allow the teachers to fully focus on the children, Spangler has donated digital devices to support a management app.

With mixed feelings Hannelore Spangler-Schäfer retires as managing director. She has built up, accompanied and led Spangler from a three-person operation to an internationally active company with 150 employees.
A large dairy in the North of Germany, which is specialized in long-life dairy products, concluded the expansion of the production site with a tower for the milk powder production at the beginning of 2021.
This significant enlargement made an extension of the sewage treatment plant by filtering and cooling of the wastewater indispensable. We were commissioned by HUBER SE to carry out the construction of the control cabinet for the sewage treatment plant, as well as programming, cabling and start-up.
We look back on our first online live lecture on the subject of ‘Virtual start-up‘ with great satisfaction. We decided to go this electronic way as the long-lasting Corona restrictions have made it difficult to visit our customers. Martin Müller and Robert Heislbetz gave a presentation to the nearly 30 connected customers via webinar. The city Bello located in the North West of Colombia is currently building one of the largest plants for sewage sludge worldwide. The project is designed for a population of 2.75 million inhabitants and can drain about 400 tons or 25 truckloads of sewage sludge.
Bauxit is an ore which is primarily used as raw material for the aluminium manufacturing. The ore can be found in low to strong concentration almost worldwide and is often mined in open-cast mines.
Since the foundation of Spangler in the year 1981 Helmut Graspointner has been part of the company and has managed Spangler for many years as managing director. At the end of 2019 he entered his well-deserved retirement as managing director.

PLC programming is SPANGLER’s speciality but the company can also hold a lot of experience in the programming of individual software.
Modernising a manufacturing process whilst the production is running is always a challenging task. SPANGLER Automation accomplished such a project for Knorr-Bremse AG, an internationally-active manufacturer of brake systems for rail and commercial vehicles.
Mühlhausen is a municipality in Upper Palatinate, about 15 kilometres south of Neumarkt. It comprises of 21 districts. SPANGLER has been commissioned to equip two sewage plants and a waterworks with modern and up-to-date control systems for this growing municipality, and to adapt the systems to the requirements of digitalisation.
It takes up to 22 hours for SPANGLER employees to travel to a customer, for example in South America. However, the journey of a customer to our company also takes a lot of time.

Dietfurt/Töging, 18 October 2016 – On 12 and 13 October German companies had the opportunity to present their region and sector in the European Parliament and deal with politically relevant issues. This year Hannelore Spangler, the entrepreneur from Dietfurt, was a member of the delegation which travelled to Brussels on behalf of the Chamber of Crafts of Lower Bavaria/Upper Palatinate. 96 German entrepreneurs in total took part in the “European Parliament of Enterprises”, twelve of them were from Bavaria.

Work underground does not only mean mining. The drilling of underground pipes is no less strenuous than mining mineral resources; as with conventional tunnel drilling machines with so called “open shields” the machine operator sits directly in the drill head. Since October, dual students at SPANGLER have been back in the lecture hall instead of the office. Having completed his apprenticeship at SPANGLER with distinction, Christoph is now studying Applied Computer Science at the University of Deggendorf. Markus is already in his third semester of Business Studies in Regensburg. We hope the “dualis” have a lot of fun back in the classroom.
